New Course in SP2026!

PHYS 498 LTQ – Experimental Techniques for Low temperature Quantum Physics

This course introduces the experimental foundations of low temperature physics and their applications in quantum condensed matter physics, quantum information science, high energy physics, astrophysics and cosmology. The course will cover vacuum, cryogenics, cryogenic refrigeration, cryogenic electronics, optics, as well as precision quantum measurements at cryogenic measurements. Students will mainly gain conceptual understanding with the essential techniques used to study quantum matter near absolute zero, where quantum phenomena dominate macroscopic behavior. Hands-on experiences will also be provided for specific sessions in the classes. The course bridges fundamental physics, practical instrumentation, and modern research applications in areas such as superconductivity, quantum fluids, cryogenic materials, and nanoscale devices.
